Propecia FAQ

How do I know Propecia is for real? Couldn't it be a scam?

Propecia is as legit as penicillin, aspirin, and ibuprofen. It has gone through the same scientific process to prove it works: several double-blind placebo-controlled medical studies. The results of two 24-month studies of 18-41-year-old men undergoing hair loss showed that 83% using Propecia stopped losing hair and 66% regrew some. This was confirmed by both the patients themselves and dermatologists.
Propecia was approved by the FDA, the government agency that regulates pharmaceuticals.

How long does it take to work?

It starts working immediately by blocking DHT formation, but you don't see the results for 3-6 months typically. At most, you should see results within a year. If nothing has changed after 12 months, Propecia might not be a solution for you.

Would taking more pills a day make Propecia work better?

No. One tablet a day achieves the best result. Taking more than the recommended dosage may be dangerous. Always follow doctor and pharmacist instructions for your own safety.

What happens when I stop taking Propecia?

In order for balding to remain at bay, you must continue to use Propecia. If you quit using it, the gains you have had will most likely go away within the next year. Balding will resume.

Does Propecia work for baldness in women?

There is no evidence to suggest that women can benefit from taking Propecia, No trials have been done testing the effect on male pattern baldness in women.

Will Propecia affect my ability to have children?

Women must absolutely not take or handle Propecia if they are conceiving, pregnant, or nursing.
Clinical trials showed no effect on male sperm count or quality when taking 1mg/day for 12 months. A minority of people may experience sexual dysfunction, such as impotence, which may make it harder to conceive. However, this is a small number of men.
The father taking Propecia will have no impact on the fetus or child.

Will my new hair look natural?

According to the only study done on this, hair regrown while patients used Propecia tended to be thicker and/or more quickly growing. Hair tended to weigh more compared with people who took the placebo.
This is your real, natural hair.

What does Propecia typically cost?

You will probably pay more buying Propecia at the corner pharmacy than you will buying from an online pharmacy. Online pharmacies also offer the added convenience of to-your-door delivery.
Typically, you will pay around $1.50 to $1.75 a pill, though prices fluctuate with market forces.

How common are sexual side effects?

While it is true that Propecia can sometimes cause sexual side effects, such as erectile dysfunction and ejaculatory dysfunction, this only happens in fewer than 2% of patients. Your chances are less than 2 in 100! If you do experience sexual dysfunction while taking Propecia, it may not actually be the result of the medication. Sexual dysfunction is more often a symptom of another condition. See a doctor.
Sexual side effects usually go away quickly as the body adjusts. Medication, such as Levitra, Cialis, and Viagra, is also a possibility.
